Destiny vs. Free Will: Are We Choosing Our Life or Just Following a Script?
The Big Question
Do we really have control over our lives—or is everything already written in the stars?
It’s a question that haunts many of us, especially during moments of uncertainty, failure, or heartbreak.
When things don’t go our way, it’s tempting to say:
“Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.”
But if everything is destined, then where does free will fit in?
Do our choices actually matter?
Taking Responsibility for Our Reality
In my previous blog, I shared a powerful idea:
We are fully responsible for the things happening in our lives.
Now, I want to go deeper—because the way we answer this question shapes how we see ourselves:
Not as victims of fate, but as powerful creators of our own reality.
What Is Destiny, Really?
Destiny suggests that certain events are pre-written—no matter what we do, they’re bound to happen.
It paints life as a script we’re simply acting out.
But if that were true... where does our freedom to choose come in?
The Power of Cause and Effect
Everything that happens in our lives is the result of choices—ours or those of others.
This is the law of cause and effect.
Every decision sends out ripples. So if we don’t like the way life looks right now, instead of blaming fate, we can begin by changing the way we choose.
Is It a Mix of Destiny and Free Will?
Some people believe it’s both—that some things are destined, while others are up to us.
But I don’t.
I believe we have 100% freedom to choose.
Yes, our choices are influenced by environment, upbringing, or past experiences.
But in the end, we choose how to respond.
That’s why I’ve said before:
We are the reason behind everything happening to us.
It might feel like a heavy truth—but it’s also deeply empowering.
When Things Don’t Go as Planned
Let’s say you didn’t get something you deeply wanted.
It’s easy to say, “Maybe it just wasn’t meant for me.”
That sounds comforting. But let’s be honest:
We didn’t get it because of something we did or didn’t do—not because of fate.
Not because someone “took it from us.”
This mindset can be uncomfortable.
It might make you feel lost, or even frustrated.
But it also opens a powerful door:
A deeper understanding of yourself.
You Are Not a Victim of Destiny
You are not here to follow a script written by someone else.
You are the creator of your reality.
You are the key.
The ability to change, heal, grow, and build the life you want—it’s already inside you.
What Do You Believe?
Do you believe in destiny? Or do you believe in the power of free will?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
